Observation at a Park

Today my daughter's soft-ball team played the first gave in the city championships. I've been watching these girls for about six weeks now, so some of the observations I watched were different than in the past.

Brylee and Bailey are the picture and catcher. Brylee has a good cheering section of family when she pitches. When her dad gives her a compliment for a great pitch she puts her shoulders back and takes a deep breath, and gives a smile that reaches her eyes. When she doesn't do her best pitch, her dad is never negative. He always yells some type of shake it off message. He's the most vocal parent on the team. When Brylee hears her dad's pep -talk she looks at him in the stands and tips her hat, and does when it says before taking a pitch.

These girls are in the 3rd/4th grade division. Today was their first game that they didn't have any runs. I saw looks of defeat when they struck out. Their chins dropped and so did their eyes. I saw looks of shock when when one girl got her first hit, and then the picture caught the ball. She started to jump up and down before running to first base. Of course she was out but she was so happy she didn't know what to do.

  1. I loved your description of Brylee smiling. I could see that vividly in my head despite not knowing what she looks like.
