Observation #4

It's interesting to see how people communicate, especially when they travel. This week I did my observations at the SLC airport. Many of the people who were traveling as pairs or alone didn't Draw attention to themselves. They sat quietly, either on their phone or reading a book/magazine. The "loners" tried not to make eye contact with people around them and kept their words to themselves as well.

There was a group of around 10 people in their late teens/ early twenties that appeared to be traveling together. They were talking and laughing, not really caring how loud they were being. As I observed them I noticed yet they didn't really look around at others either. They sat openly, turned around on their chairs if their friends were speaking, and looked as if they were having fun with their smiles and laughter.

  1. I notice this often too, and I always finding myself thinking, "Who is really more secure in their environment?"

It always feels like the loud crowd is at first sight. It makes them seem more confident and comfortable.

But on second thought, I wonder if there is some sort of psychological compensation going on there.

    Pretty cool to think about.
