I did this weeks observation at Wendy's. It was really interesting watching the family with kids, as well as the couples without kids. The families with children seemed to be more stressed. They were chasing around children. You could tell they were getting frustrated as their smiles disappeared from their faces, their brows began to furrow, and they mouths began to turn down. It was easy to tell the kids were super excited for their meal, as they were jumping up and down and repeating what they wanted several times over again.
The couples who came in without children seemed to be more relaxed. Their body language was easy to read, as they stood patiently in line. One individual who came in by himself was clearly in a hurry. He began tapping his foot and he crossed his arms a few different times. The would glare at the children that were running around and when he finally gave his order he was very short with the employee. He even rolled his eyes a few times while other names were called before his when waiting for his food. It was fascinating to see the differences in the different people that came in and the situations they were in.
It is amazing how many observations this week included people glaring at kids. It seems like a pretty commonplace location to have kids, so I am surprised by how many people are upset by that. Great observations!
