I really enjoyed the Tape Face guy. He was very interesting and at first I was skeptical about what he was going to perform. He was just standing there with wide black eyeliner eyes and tape over his mouth. I think anyone who was watching the youtube video would draw to the same conclusion that the guy was crazy. The judges' reactions showed that same assumption but once he started his act, that assumption changed. He was able to tell multiple stories with his hands, and facial expressions without talking. The audience knew exactly what he was trying to get across and thought it was so funny. It also brings me back to my Samoan culture, where we tell stories through our facial expressions, hands, and dance.
I also enjoyed learning more about nonverbal communication this week. I thought it was interesting to learn that our body responds to the emotions we are experiencing. I never really took to thought that when we are angry, our blood flows to our hands warming them up to strike and when we are scared the blood flow increases to the legs, preparing the leg muscles to flee. Learning about the 3 F's were fun which include freeze, flight, and fight. It helped me to put things into perspective regarding nonverbal communication.
I didn't know freeze was a response until I read about it from this class. I had only known about fight or flight.
