This week’s module was a lot of
solid information. It talked about proxemics which refers to the way distance
and space play a communicative role in our everyday life. I thought Hall’s 4
Zones of Space was interesting! I have always known that each person has their
own space (I know I do) but I like how Hall broke down the spaces. They include
intimate, personal, social, and public space. I really like the differentiation
between public and social. It made me think of when I’m in public and who I chose
to socialize with. There are obvious things that help influence such as
cultural background, gender, age, and relationship.
Hand
gestures allow us to understand the thoughts and feelings of others. Reading
about hand gestures made me remember a story of when I was younger. My brothers
and I were playing baseball inside the house. My older brother swung and accidentally threw the ball which ended up going through the wall. My parents
came out and my brother stood in front of the hole with his hands behind his
bad looking guilty has ever. By putting his hands behind his back, he was
extremely expressing an emotion and my parents caught on quickly. Also, when I
was younger, I got in the habit of biting my nails. The book explains that his
action happens when nervousness or anxiety comes into play which was exactly my
case!
Lastly,
I really liked how this module and the connection between Inside Out. I enjoyed
reading Ekman’s guide for parents about this movie. Core moments are so
critical. I can even remember times when I felt fear, embarrassed, or angry and
consider them core moments because I haven’t forgot them. This movie was a
great story line to explain emotions within us.
