Journal #3
My journal for this week will include what I learned from the book. I was very interested in what was discussed in Chapter 4 regarding the Torso Lean, Ventral Denial and Ventral Fronting. I never knew that most of our behaviors associated with the torso reflect the emotions that of the limbic brain. I didn't really think that all these things connected and that it was considered nonverbal communication until reading this textbook. The book states that not only can we read the body language of others and use body language to read people but we are projecting our own nonverbal communications daily towards others.
When people lean towards each other there is a sense of being comfortable and in agreement but when we lean away from the things and people we don't like we tend to lean away. I notice now that whenever I've disagreed with someone I tend to go from a bent forward position to leaning back and folding my arms position. I have a real bad habit of folding my arms on a regular basis and after reading this, I now realized that it comes off as being in discomfort or disagreement especially if its tightly folded. I will make sure that I take notice of how I fold my arms because I never knew that in certain ways it comes of as if I disagree or feel uncomfortable. Don't want to give off the wrong vibe.
