For this observation, I watched people at the local gym I attend, Planet Fitness in Orem. Something that I noticed while at the gym was the different people and the way they acted when walking into the gym. There were some people that it was easy to tell that this was part of their daily routine. They seemed very comfortable with walking in and just doing their thing, while there were others we walked in with their heads down and seemed to get flustered when trying to use a new machine.
The people that stood out to me the most were the one's who appeared to be new to the gym or didn't come very often. As previously stated, they walked in with their heads down, were very conscious of their surroundings, would sometimes turn red when trying to use a new machine or not being able to lift the amount they were hoping, etc. Many of these people looked around them often to see if people were watching them, and if they caught someone looking they seemed to be embarrassed, because they would quickly avoid the eye contact and turn red. I think the main reason for this is that they may not have been fully comfortable at the gym or were concerned that people would judge them. Overall it was very interesting to watch the different between the new people and the people who seemed to be regulars.
