Observation #3

I did my weekly observation at my local Lotsa Motsa in Richfield.  I was there for the noon rush, although it wasn't as busy as it usually is.  There were still several people there eating their food either alone or in groups.  Many of them were older adults.  One pair of men were sitting in one of the corner booths, not really talking to one another.  They were hunched over their plates of pizza and occasionally glanced around the room.  Neither of them made eye contact with other people in the restaurant.

At one point a gentleman from across the room stood and went over to their table and spoke with them for a moment.  His wife joined them.  They shared a conversation for just a few minutes.  Both the gentlemen at the table relaxed a little during the conversation.  Afterwards they went back to being hunched over and silent, their eyes not resting on anything for very long.

I almost took their behavior as wanting to be left alone and almost of the verge of discomfort.  They weren't fidgeting or looking at the exit, but it almost seemed like part of them were uncomfortable.  It was kind of interesting to watch.

  1. How fascinating! It really makes you wonder what the relationship between them was, since they were so uncomfortable. Maybe they are forced to dine together? Great observations.
