My observations of
non-verbal communication at the grocery store by my home, Winegars, is that
most people are running in there for a few things. People are showing they are
in a hurry by the pace the set as they walk into the store. I saw three families
drop someone off at the door and wait with the car engine running while the
"errand" member picked up a few items and returned to the car.
On the inside, I
notice the opposite effect. Ruth the cashier in check-stand one by the
door always had a line. People would wait to see her even if other check-
stands were empty. Ruth greeted everyone with a smile and called people by
their names. She even shock a few people’s hands.
